About Mamit

Mamit is also an important town located in the Mamit district in Mizoram. The town of Mamit was formed by regrouping of several villages. The town of Mamit lies between 23.93oN latitude and 92.48oE longitude. The district is bounded by Kolasib and Aizawl districts on the east, North Tripura district on the west, Hailakandi district of Assam on the north and Lunglei district on the south.

According to 2011 census, the total population of Mamit is 7,884 out of which 4,074 comprise of males and 3,810 are females. The average literacy rate of Mamit is 82 %. The population here consists of Mizo, Chakma, Reang(Bru) and other backward classes.

The town of Mamit is located n the district of Mamit. The town of Mamit is the administrative headquarters of the district. The District Commissioner is the head of the District Administration. The District Commissioner looks after the law and order of the distict. The Mamit District consist of three Rural Development which are Reiek , ZawLnuam and West Phaileng. The blocks are headed by the Block Development Officers.

How to Reach Mamit

Land transport is the major medium of transport in Mamit. The town of Mamit can be easily reached from Aizawl through roadways. Mamit is located at a distance of about 89 km from Aizawl. There are regular bus, taxi and jeep service from Aizawl to Mamit. There are no airports in Mamit.  The nearest airport is Lengpui Airport in Aizawl. Pawan haan has started the helicopter service from Maimit to Aizawl twice in a week. There is also no Railway station here and the closest railway station is the Silchar Railway Station.
